DunLash Load Securing Solutions for Ethiopia’s Coffee Export, Manufacturing, and Project-Cargo Sectors
Cargo Securing in Ethiopia — Specific Challenges
Ethiopia is a landlocked country in the Horn of Africa whose import and export cargo moves through neighbouring countries to reach the sea. The overwhelming majority of Ethiopia’s freight — around 90% — transits through the Port of Djibouti, via the Addis Ababa–Djibouti road corridor and the electrified Addis Ababa–Djibouti standard-gauge railway, with a smaller share moving through the Berbera corridor in Somaliland.
These freight corridors mean cargo must be secured to withstand long road and rail distances, border formalities, variable conditions, and extended transit times.
Ethiopia’s economy is anchored in agriculture — coffee, sesame and oilseeds, pulses, and a major cut-flower export sector — alongside a growing manufacturing base in its industrial parks, mining, and large-scale infrastructure and construction projects. Each of these sectors generates specific cargo securing requirements, from heavy plant and project equipment through to palletised produce and containerised manufacturing goods.
DunLash supplies Ethiopia’s freight operators, manufacturers, and logistics contractors with independently tested, SGS certified cargo securing products from our South African operations.
In addition to our cargo lashing solutions, we offer a full range of lashing systems, strapping, dunnage, desiccants, and cargo protection products. Read more about these product specifications below:
